MUSEUM - 2015 Nitschke Block Shiraz (750ml)

Mark Schwarz & Pauline Schwarz

The Nitschke Road Shiraz block was planted by my mother and father in 1968 in Bethany near the base of the Eastern Barossa Range. The vineyard is still pruned and picked by hand and the soils of loam over brown and red clays results in a wine of considerable concentration and drive.

Rich, opulent fruit is the reoccurring theme with this vineyard and it always seems to show great balance and texture year in, year out.

The Nitschke Block Shiraz was the first wine made by Jason Schwarz back in 2001.

95 POINTS GOLD - James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion

The vines were planted by Jason Schwarz's parents in '68. Picked in two portions, the first 14 Feb, 20% whole bunches, wild yeast open-fermented, 25 days on skins, matured in French hogsheads (25% new); the second picked 24 Feb, 25% whole bunches, 20 days on skins, matured in one new French hogsheads and puncheon, the bunches foot-stomped at the end of fermentation. Sophisticated winemaking, the only question the amount of French oak apparent now, but will regress with more time in bottle. (published 30th June, 2021)
