• This Shiraz, from 400 vines planted in 1881 is Barossa history in a bottle. Hand-picked from the vineyard still managed by the sixth-generation of the Schiller family, only 1700 bottles have been produced. An intensely dark coloured Shiraz with a complex array of aromatics - black cherry and dark plum, star anise and cinnamon framed around well managed French oak. "The 400 vines planted by Carl August Otto Schiller in 1881 were saved from the bulldozers at the last moment in the Barossa Valley Vine Pull Scheme, allowing this wines to be made and enjoyed today. There's a lot of oak to go with the fruit, so patience is needed. In 10 years this will knock your socks off." JAMES HALLIDAY, August 2019
Opens quickly to luxe fruits, maraschino cherry, fruits of the forest and some black plum skin, building in its layers of salty licorice, dark chocolate and dried Mediterranean herbs. Needs time to spread its wings before glazed Christmas ham and sweet red earth show through the fruit. Though it has a similarly luxurious palate, this wine is testament to the balance that can be found from old vine Shiraz, with framing tannin and succulent acidity. *Tasting notes written by Christian Canala at Vinify Wine Co* Download tasting notes
  • The Nitschke Road Shiraz block was planted by my mother and father in 1968 in Bethany near the base of the Eastern Barossa Range. The vineyard is still pruned and picked by hand and the soils of loam over brown and red clays results in a wine of considerable concentration and drive. Rich, opulent fruit is the reoccurring theme with this vineyard and it always seems to show great balance and texture year in, year out. The Nitschke Block Shiraz was the first wine made by Jason Schwarz back in 2001. Variety: 100% Shiraz Vintage: 2018 Region: Barossa Valley Alcohol: 14.2 % Production: 434 dozen Bottled: December 2019 "This vintage of the seminal Nitschke Shiraz no doubt showed the exceptional quality of 2018 Shiraz. A display of the purest blood-plum and black cherry, with cracked black peppercorn and streaky bacon over some seriously fine oak. Some subtle herbaceous qualities, nettle and thyme bring life to an otherwise immense nose. Very juicy on the palate, deeply flavoursome, long and with mouth-coating tannin for a very textured, very focussed Barossa classic" *Tasting notes written by Christian Canala at Vinify Wine Co* Download tasting notes
