The family Grenache block on Thiele Road in Bethany remains one of Jason’s favourite blocks. The gnarled, old vines were planted in 1941 and they produce fantastic fruit. The grapes are hand picked on 5 March 2016 before the short trip to the winery (about 2km) where 20 per cent was put into the open fermenter as whole bunches, with gentle pump overs so as not to extract too much from the grapes early allowing extended maceration. The grapes were foot stomped towards the end of fermentation, and left on skins 15 days, before being basket pressed into old French puncheons and a small tank. Blended February 2017 to tank, and bottled October 2017 without fining or filtration.
