Mataro

In Australia it's referred to as both Mataro and Mourvèdre, while the Spanish often call it Monastrell. First brought to Australia in 1836, the oldest planting in the Barossa date back to 1853. Commonly found in GSM blends, Mataro is an exceptional varietal on its own, displaying flavours of blackberry, blueberry, raspberry, bilberry, cherries and plums. An age worthy varietal indeed.

Sweetly ripe and fragrant, the bouquet shows dark plum, blackberry, smoked game, and floral aromas with a hint of dark chocolate. It’s equally appealing in the mouth, offering succulent fruit intensity backed by silky texture and elegant tannins, finishing long and flavoursome. At its best: now to 2033.
