The family Grenache block on Thiele Road in Bethany remains one of Jason’s favourite blocks. The first vintage of the Thiele Road Grenache was made by Jason Schwarz in 2002 and celebrates his love of this diverse variety. The gnarled, old vines were planted in 1941 and they produce fantastic fruit.

More Information

Vibrant ruby in the glass, perfumed and pretty with a nose of bramble, crushed flower petals and deli meats.  The tannins are what define this wine – poised, fine and crisp, though fruit is front and centre this release.  Raspberry and black cherry flow alongside star anise and five spice, with some lower toned notes of earth and an umami/bonox quality.  A medium bodied and pure expression of Grenache, with those fine tannins closing the finish with fantastic length.

I've always been a fan of this Bethany-born, single-vineyard grenache from Jason Schwarz. The '23 is a pretty compelling wine; spacious with a touch of sinew and chewy tannin to its form; dark plum and cherry fruit tones, studded with hints of amaro herbs, exotic spice, earth, cured meats, cola and brambly, whole-bunchy (30% in '23) intrigue. Some meaty tones hum underneath all the spice and fruit too, which I love.

Brambly aromas, along with sap, spice, dark cherry, blackberry and earth. Mouth-filling, layered and with a core of red and blue fruits. There's lovely mouth-feel and texture here and there's some complexing, bunchy action that brings plenty to the table. The tannins are firm and detailed and the acidity has plenty of zip.
