The range of Meta wines are Jason Schwarz’s new-age expressions of the classic Barossa red & white varieties of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz.
And the recently added, Meta Grenache Blanc
These wines are all produced from single vineyard sites, each expressing its sense of place or terroir with increased clarity and authority. Jason’s hands-off, intuitive winemaking approach allows these wines to really shine. By guiding the fruit gently along, the vineyard’s unique characters are manifested in each bottle.

A new wine in the Schwarz lineup, a single-barrel selection of the best shiraz of the vintage, and '21 is certainly a cracking year to begin with. Deep macerated satsuma plum and blackberry fruit are cut with hints of baking spice, brandied fruits, licorice, dark chocolate, earth, panforte, espresso and oak spice. Impressive depth, fruit weight and velvety flow across the palate, with thick, powdery tannins in support. It has no lack of power and heft but still retains a sense of energy and freshness. A great inaugural release in the classic Barossa style.
Single-vineyard shiraz from the Nitschke block in Bethany, planted by Jason Schwarz's parents in 1968; wild-yeast ferment and a proportion of whole bunches. An initial blast of ripe macerated plum and cassis characters backed up by hints of olive tapenade, violets, cedar, amaro herbs, earth, licorice, vanilla, baking spices and chocolate-dipped cherries. Broody and resonant on the palate with a deep, dark fruit presence, layers of spice and fine, powdery tannin and a cassis-like finish that shows great sustain.
Chenin blanc has got a bit of a thing going on at the moment ... and I dig it. Light straw in the glass with aromas of green apple, poached pears and juicy citrus with hints of crème fraîche, crushed stone, marzipan and white flowers. There's a pleasing slinky, textural aspect on the palate, finishing clean with bright acidity providing plenty of velocity and verve.
Perfumed nose of dried violets, blackcurrants, peppercorns and cacao. Hazelnuts and sweet spices, too. Creamy and polished, with a full body and velvety tannins. Delicious chocolate and sweet spice on the lengthy finish...
Deep crimson. Fresh dark plum, blackberry, roasted hazelnut, hint black liquorice aromas. Well concentrated dark chocolate, blackberry, satsuma plum flavours, fine slinky textures and underlying savoury notes. Finishes firm and tight with some black olive notes.
Medium-deep crimson. Lovely ripe blackberry, dark chocolate aromas with chinotto notes. Voluminous and generous with ample dark berry, dark chocolate flavours, find velvety textures and underlying roasted walnut notes. Finished chocolately with mineral notes. Bittersweet wine with plush fruit and fresh acidity.
Deep ruby, this generously flavoured and detailed Grenache blend shows good focus of blackberry, black cherry and meaty spice aromas with a touch of tar. Hearty flavours follow with ample texture but a well integrated tannin frame. A Barossa Côtes du Rhône style that is well balanced and will deliver for some years to come.
Opens with white flowers and dried herbs, hint of sage. Fresh, crisp and textured with excellent intensity and drive. Finishes long.
